15 HIMS of the Rock Region gathered today at Independence.  A few guys came to get in some P200 miles and a few other stayed around for the workout.  No FNG’s were present so YHC opened up by explaining to the PAX that we would be moving around a bit.  The disclaimer was disclaimed and all PAX were reminded to encourage one another and reminded to take care of the Six.  We got started off with the warm-up as the runners headed down to Winthrop Lake for some miles.  The warm-up included SSH, seal jacks, cherry pickers, windmills and then it was time to get started

The Thang –

The remaining PAX and YHC headed out of the parking lot and moseyed over to the front of Tillman where Sapper led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Then we headed over to the DiGeorgio Student Center in the covered outdoor hall and planked for the Six.  Once all had arrived it was time to get to work, so we did the following – ATM’s consisting on 20 alternating shoulder taps / 20 temp merkins / 10 merkins IC.  Then we did a set of SSH & Seal Jacks to get the heart rate up and back to plank followed by a PCH 10 count of 6 inches.  After a quick 10 count we headed over to the front of Byrnes in the small bench circle and did the following – 10 leg lifts each leg, 20 dips, 10 Irkins IC and 10 dirkins IC, followed by a close in set of 20 calf raises.  Then we headed over to the front of Byrnes for some partner work – while 1 partner ran around the building, partner 2 would do Merkins and flip flop for 300 total Merkins.  Each man did great and I think got in 2 laps each.  Our 10 count was a quick word by YHC where I asked the PAX “What does success mean to you?”  Sapper jumped in and replied to him it means being comfortable with the man in the mirror.  YHC shared the following quote with the PAX from Winston Churchill –

“Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm”

What this means to me is that when things are going great it’s very easy and comfortable to be happy and enthusiastic.  The reality is that life won’t always be great – how do you treat others in the darker times?  the harder times?  Are you the same person in good times as bad?  True success is being the same person in good times as bad times.  Be kind to others.  Be an encourager.  Lift your brothers up

Next, we headed over to the coupon pile in the field with the figure 8 and did the following – 20 curls, 20 bent over rows, 20 shoulder presses, 20 curls.  Then we headed over to the big wall adjacent to the field and did a set of people’s chair with shoulders – knees – toes IC.  Time was running short so we headed back to COT, just as the runners were getting back.  We got in about 2 miles and a full body workout.

We closed with announcements, prayers & praises

We finished off the morning with a site Q hand-off.  Sir Purr passed off the shovel flag to Anchor Bar.  Thanks for your leadership Sir Purr – Aye!  Well done  Anchor Bar was already working on setting up VQ’s and those who have never Q’d at Independence.  It was a great morning & as always a pleasure and honor to be asked to lead.  Thanks Sir Purr for the opportunity to do so
