For the 2 of you that are reading this, we looked at Matthew 16:13-30
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock[b] I will build my church, and the gates of hell[c] shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed[d] in heaven.” 20 Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
Jesus asked those closest to him, his 12 disciples, who they thought He was. What about you? What do you believe? I mentioned that it’s easy in our culture to just blindly accept a generic faith or ride the current of a church or denomination’s “Statement of Faith” without question. Now, there are closed handed \ non-negotiable points of the Christian faith. A few of these are;
1. Doctrine of the Trinity
2. God as Father & Creator
3. Salvation by Jesus Christ alone
and so on…
They are also open handed issues where there are different positions on, such as man’s role in salvation (Calvinism vs. Armenian-ism) What do you believe, do you have questions, doubts, unknowns? It’s ok. God is your perfect, loving, patient heavenly father. Take those questions to Him in prayer and let the power & presence of the Holy Spirit lead you in the journey through God’s word to bring resolution. Talk to your pastor, a church elder or others in the PAX to work through and pray together. Those questions are better than just blind, inactive, follow-the-idea-of-the-month faith. I don’t have many answers but I know who has all of them; I’m more than happy to talk about this with you as well.
Love to all,
