A soggy and soupy Saturday morning brought 14 men to Camino Del Rio for a tour of Riverwalk. Here’s what we did:

The Thang

  • Lap around the parking lot
  • 10 Merkins (IC)
  • 10 LBCs (IC)
  • 10 Flutters (IC)
  • 51 Imperial Walkers (IC) – this was my feeble effort at quieting Apache’s mumblechatter. I figured if I had him call cadence, the chatter would stop. It did, but I had no idea the IWs would go on so long!

Mosey to the parking lot of the BMX track

  • Bear Crawl to the first line
  • Crab Walk to the next line
  • Burpee Broad jump to the last line

Mosey to the covered area at the track

  • Perform the following exercises as two PAX climb the stairs, do 5 Squats, and return.
    • SSH
    • Seal Jacks
    • Overhead Claps
    • Hillbilly Walkers
    • CDDs
    • Mountain Climbers

Mosey to bleachers

  • 11s with Merkins and Squats
  • 10 count for AMRAP Pull-ups

Mosey to the big hill – the highest point of Riverwalk

  • 20 SSHs (IC)
  • 25 MNCs (IC)
  • 20 Seal Jacks (IC)

Mosey down the steps to near COT

  • Flutters while you wait
  • 20 Alternating Shoulder Taps

Mosey to parking lot for 5 minutes of Mary

  • 10 V-ups (IC)
  • 10 Hello Dolly (IC)
  • 5 Burpees
  • 10 Rosalitas (IC)
  • 10 Chop Sticks (IC)
  • 10 long count 6 Inches

I’ve been thinking a lot about things my parents have told me over the years. Mom used to say, “It’s not what you said, but how you said it.” She also used to tell me, “Can’t never could do anything.” Which reminded me of a Henry Ford quote, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” Your success is determined by your attitude. Many fear failure, so they never try. They think, “If I never try, I can never fail.” I think we should reverse that thought. Rather than not trying, think this way, “I don’t want to fail so I’m going to try harder.” Tell me I can’t and I’ll show you I can.

Can’t is a crutch. It’s a lie. It’s lazy. If you want something, you have to work for it. If you want to lose weight and gain muscle mass you have to work at your diet and exercise. If you want to be a better husband, then you have to compromise. You have to listen and care. You have to be selfless. If you want to be a better dad, you have to put time into it. It doesn’t matter how tired you are at the end of the day, find the energy to pour into your kids. Children forget the things you buy them, but they remember the time you spend with them. Kids spell love T-I-M-E. And just remember, attitude determines outcome.
