It was an honor to lead this fine group of 17 HIMs on this muggy morning at the end of May. This is not Memorial Day, but it will be recognized throughout this workout.
We began with this short warmup all in cadence: Side Straddle Hops; Low Slow Squats; Peter Parker Peters; Merkins. We then took a mosey towards Glencairn Gardens to the memorial monument.
We began at the bottom of the monument at the placards of each branch of armed forces. At each one we performed a series of exercises in cadence then took a lap around the gardens between each branch to get in the mileage for those who needed it. As we proceeded through the exercises, they gradually became more difficult. I don’t remember all of the exercises, and really the NMM is the most important part of this BackBlast.
Memorial Day is the day we Americans celebrate by remembering the men and women who have died while serving in the country’s armed forces. It is a day when in the morning the American flag is raised briskly to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to half staff until noon as a remembrance of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice during their service. At noon, their memory is raised by the living, who decide not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all.
Over 1-million men & women have died while serving our country. Over 1-million have families have lost loved ones; fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, brothers, sisters, etc. This weekend take some time to remember those who have given their lives for your liberty and freedom. Ask yourself ‘would I do the same for others if the need arose?’ Celebrate this weekend with humility and the knowledge of what it truly means for you and our country. Remember, over 1-million people have sacrificed their earthly freedom for your freedom in this country.
