Psalm 141 – (discussion/comments within the verses)
O Lord, I call upon you; hasten to me!
Give ear to my voice when I call to you!
2 Let my prayer be counted as incense before you,
and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice!
Prayer is a wonderful gift from God to us; it is for us, God doesn’t need it. Prayer changes us by the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts and lives, it is our loving heavenly father wanting to talk with his children who he loves EVEN when He already knows everything that’s going on in your life and wants to hear from you and I. Prayer has tremendous power, we’ve all seen it. Never doubt the power of prayer in whatever you’re facing. Jesus needs to be our lighting rod, not our spouse, kids or someone else. I can’t handle being there everyday all day for my family sometimes, I get overwhelmed and max’d out with life and I’m not consistent due to my limitations and humanness. God never does, work it out with Him in prayer (anger, sadness, fear, worry, etc.) Be honest and real…again, He already knows.
Jeremiah 29:13 (ESV) – You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
All your heart means bring it all to him, the good the bad, the ugly, the scary, the funk you don’t want to talk about.
3 Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;
keep watch over the door of my lips!
This is a great prayer in the morning before the day starts and when walking into appointments, meetings, work, etc. The Lord has really been working on me in this and He has taught me there are three areas of life that I need to keep my mouth shut.
1. When I’m upset or angry
2. When I don’t have all the information
3. When someone else is talking
4 Do not let my heart incline to any evil,
to busy myself with wicked deeds
in company with men who work iniquity,
and let me not eat of their delicacies!
Prayer of protection from internal and external evil & sin. How we spend our time and who we spend it with greatly affects us because of what we’re taking in and who it’s from.
5 Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness;
let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head;
let my head not refuse it.
Who is speaking into your and my life? I shared part of my testimony that when my first marriage was ending and I was neck deep in active porn addiction, I had a couple of guys who I love and trust sit me down and have a very difficult conversation. They struck and rebuked me, firmly but it love. God used them to change my life and heal and I’m free. What about you? Who are you real with? Who can you call or sit down with and share ANYTHING with and there is no rejection or judgement? You and I need that. You and I need to pray for each other in those situations.
May God lead you to that special someone today.
