28 men resisted the urge to fartsack to post at Old Town with YHC on a nice September morning.  I had been looking forward to this morning for a few days as we were honored to have several guests in the Gloom.  First, what an honor and privilege it was to have several members of the Forest Hills mission team in the Rock Region.  These HIM’s are departing on September 8th for a week long mission trip to Colombia and we had invited them down so that we could give them a proper send-off.  Our other honored guests were JRR Tolkien and his 4 chariots of Speed for Need.  Speed for Need is a foundation that Tolkien has launched to bring fitness to those less advantaged and allow them to experience what many of us take for granted.  The chariots were here for some test ride with the PAX and will be returning on September 16th at the Nun Run.  After a quick introduction of our guests to the regularly attending PAX, we proceeded to the warm-up which consisted of SSH, Windmills, L/R & R/L, Cherry Pickers, calf stretches, Merkins

The Thang

After the warm-up, we moseyed out of the COT with our chariots and headed down towards Winthrop University for a quiet road I had picked out for the mornings events.  After about a mile we arrived at our appointed location near the DiGiorgio Center parking lot.  Before we got to the running, we engaged our cores with flutters, 6 inches, box cutters & LBC’s.  Then we did a short mosey over to the side road and did repeats to Cherry Road & back.  All of the PAX had an opportunity to push the chariots & simulate our events for the Nun Run courtesy of the ruck & sand bags we had in tow.  After several repeats of the full length Tolkien instructed the PAX we were going 4 wide with several combos (Clydesdales, Featherweights, Internationals, Youngsters & Respects).  Anybody not behind a chariot ran hard and their job was to try & catch the chairs.  The chairs are a lot of fun to push and the Rock Region is looking forward to the Nun Run on the 16th of September (Still time to sign up – use F3Save code to save $5 – shameless plug).  Before we headed back to COT, YHC gathered the PAX around I shared some of my thoughts about what an honor it was to have the Mission Team at Old Town today.  These men are sacrificing from their families to answer God’s call to reach out to those close to us, but far from God.  They are taking it a step further and going far from us to others far from God.  I then shared the following verse that spoke to me when planning this mornings events

Luke 10:2

And He (Christ) said to them, the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest

It was then time to head back to the AO for a 1 mile run back.  We concluded the morning by inviting the Mission Team to the center of the COT surrounded by the PAX.  I asked each of the team members to think of 1 person they would like us to pray for.  I challenged each of the PAX around the team to remember one name and pray daily for that person while their loved one was away.  The team members then shared someone close to them, wives, children and family members.  We closed with a prayer for the team with laying of hands.  Always an honor to lead but this morning was even more meaningful to me.  Thanks Reborn for allowing me the opportunity
